Events: The “Real” Real-Time Social Networks

Social media, video and blogs are among the top tools to promote your business and ideas. If you are not using them you are definitely missing out on new mediums and platforms to reach your audience. Technology aside, there is nothing more “social” and “real-time” then actually meeting people in person, at conferences, meetups and events.

Our client Apstrata is no stranger to this concept. The provider of real-time Web technology worked with the team here at Springboard to create an event plan which is part of their overall marketing communications strategy. Apstrata targets application developers and the team here prepared a lineup of events for them to regularly participate in.

Are You a Good Client or Bad?

Every consultant, agency and service provider has at least one client horror story.  The same could be said for companies who hire us (and I mean you, me, anyone and everyone in the service business).  In most cases we can peacefully (and productively) coexist. But as they say, it only takes one bad apple to spoil the bunch.

So when a SNAFU arises, and things get out of sorts, it begs the question: what could have been done to avoid it?

The Scourge of the Creative Process

Every creative team has its share of battle scars. These are the result of disagreements, skirmishes and “healthy discussions” with peers, vendors, consultants, service providers and clients.  In my view, if your creative thoughts and ideas are not met with resistance (by one person or many), they are too safe, and might not yield the best results.

Size Matters – Small is the New Big!

The past few months have challenged the mantra that “bigger is better.” Some of the largest companies across a diverse range of industries have discovered that they are “too big to be saved.” Overnight, we have witnessed, in disbelief, several industry titans simply evaporate.

We all want to grow, expand and essentially become BIG. This is the natural progression of business. But there is responsibility in pursuing big, becoming big and maintaining big.

What a Sandcastle Contest Can Teach Us About Marketing

Since 1999, Springboard has helped coordinate one of the largest sandcastle and sand sculpting contests in the northeast. Using the medium of sand, “artists” of all ages and levels create astonishing masterpieces. The event transforms the beach into a mosaic that includes traditional sandcastles, sea creatures, cartoon characters, shipwrecked boats, Yankee Stadium, a New York City skyline, and even a bowling lane with 10 pins and ball.

Held on the beautiful beaches of Belmar, NJ (located in the middle of the “Jersey Shore”), the event attracts 10,000-plus sand enthusiasts. Among the different categories separated by age, all participants must follow four simple guidelines which represent the criteria for judging – creativity, originality, resourcefulness, and accessories.
