What We Can Learn From BP

Unless you have been living under a rock, you are aware that we are going on day 58 of BP’s (British Petroleum) catastrophic oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico.  With every failed attempt to cap this oozing mess along with the somewhat sincere comments made by BP’s CEO Tony Hayward in countless media appearances, the company sinks itselfeven deeper. 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea deeper!

What is Your Content Strategy?

As you implement marketing, PR and social media programs to build brand awareness, we believe every company should take a holistic view of their content strategy.  What is meant by this?  Basically, all pieces of content created by your company – press releases, case studies, blog posts, video, e-books, newsletters, white papers, email signature files, etc. – must be integrated and aim to reinforce your value proposition.  Beyond text, content should incorporate audio, video, and photos – as these can help clearly convey the problem your product or service addresses.

Last week, at the NJConnect Meetup in Princeton, guest speaker Joe Allegra (General Partner at Edison Venture Fund) discussed the topic, “Approaching Investors to Fund Your Company.”

Do blogs matter?  Depending on who you ask, and what their definition of a blog is, opinions can vary.  In short, we think YES! 

The media industry has undergone a significant transformation in recent years.  Many factors – such as the economy, advertising budgets, the accelerated shift from print to online news consumption, and social media – have all contributed to and created new opportunities for specialization.  On the flip side, those seeking information – everything from fixing garage doors to cooking hard boiled eggs – are only an Internet search away from finding the best source.  All of these factors have contributed to the emergence of blogs.
