Drinking the Social Media Kool-Aid

A few months ago, we helped a client launch their first social media campaign and got them initially started utilizing LinkedIn and Twitter. It has been a little over two months and we have connected with nearly 300 “friends,” and this number is growing every day. In our view, quality is more important than quantity, and so far the client has received a few serious sales leads. But more importantly, they are connecting with people on a different level utilizing these social platforms, and learning a lot about the market and its needs.

Every year, this client celebrates National Payroll Week by creating a quiz to test a person’s industry IQ For the past three years, we have implemented a campaign around this event, including a press release announcing the quiz, inviting media and bloggers to participate, and helped the client celebrate National Payroll Week with customers and prospects through email correspondence. This year we also used Twitter to promote the quiz.

So what was the impact of using Twitter?

Last year, 200 people participated by taking our quiz which resulted in one new customer for our client. This year the quiz was taken by 899 people across the US – almost a 500 percent increase.

All things being equal, Twitter got more people talking about (and taking) the quiz.  That said, our client believes in social media and we are already planning several other campaigns.

How is Twitter and other social tools helping you?
