When utilized correctly, Twitter
can be a powerful networking tool to build and maintain your online
persona. If you’re not tweeting often and following people who share
your interests, then you are simply not using Twitter to its maximum
potential.
Here are five sites that will help you connect with like-minded “tweeps” and, as a result, put you in the best position to increase your Twitter following:
- Twitter Advanced Search – Twitter’s official search engine is a good place to start. Here, you can search for recent tweets by topic, location and date. The downside is that this site will not help you search within users’ profiles.
- TweepSearch – A personal favorite, TweepSearch allows you to search the profiles of more than 13.5 million tweeters for specific keywords in their bios and locations.
- Twellow – Bills itself as “The Twitter Yellow Pages.” Twellow acts as a directory where you can search for tweeters by categories and keywords.
- LocalTweeps – With LocalTweeps, you can find local tweeters by inputting specific cities, states or zip codes. Very handy if you’re looking to connect with people in your area.
- Mr. Tweet – This site will automate the process for you. Mr. Tweet works by analyzing your existing follower base and then makes suggestions on similar people to follow.
Keep in mind that these are only a sample of helpful tools designed to help you find and connect with people on Twitter.

A very helpful little lesson mixed into the workday. I have been trying for some time to build my nonprofit organization's social media profile, and Springboard's Twitter advice will definitely open some doors moving ahead.
